The Rules of the 305

Sim Rules

Rule 1:

Don’t be a jerk OOC (out of character). You know when you’re being a jerk OOC. Others know when you’re being a jerk OOC. Whether you’re being a jerk is dependent on context, and “being a jerk” is therefore not strictly defined. If you’re being a jerk, we’ll let you know. If you continue being a jerk, we’ll let you know with zest.

Rule 2:
Don’t god-mod, powergame, or metagame without permission This means that you shouldn’t be telling people what their character is doing.

  •  God-modding is defined as choosing other people’s actions for them. Always post your actions towards another player as an attempt, unless you have permission from that player not to do so.
  •  Powergaming is defined as creating a character that is extremely powerful and/or always wins in any given situation.
  • Metagaming is defined as using information IC that your character does not know IC (in character).

Rule 3:
RP limits exist. If you have an RP limit, you can’t do that thing to another person. This is a sim where bad things happen sometimes, though, so if your RP limit is “I don’t like violence”, you might want to rethink your decision to roleplay within The 305. If you’re running up against an RP Limit–either your own or someone else’s–use communication to figure it out.

Rule 4:
Don’t spam gestures, don’t play excessive audio. Basically, limit your SFX to scene/character appropriate things.

Rule 5:
Don’t be OOCly or ICly racist/homophobic/transphobic/sexist/etc. Prejudice against species (i.e., hating vampires) is still okay. Prejudice against real-life groups is not. This is an immediately bannable offense, so just don’t.

Rule 6:
The results of 3DS combat must be adhered to in roleplay, and all 3DS rules must be followed (these rules are listed below). Also, don’t use other combat systems.

Rule 7:
OOC stalking/harassment/excessive shit-talking/etc will fall under Rule 1 if we have to deal with it.

Rule 8:
Child avatars are not allowed. Ageplay is not allowed. We do not care if your character is actually 8,000 years old; if they’re in the body of a twelve year-old, don’t bring them here.

Rule 9:
Don’t break Linden ToS while on-sim. Doing that makes it our problem.

Rule 10:
Try, as best you can, to adhere to a scene’s etiquette (post order, tone, etc.). Egregious, deliberate, and repeated breaches of this may fall under Rule 1.

Rule 11:
Do not use comms or other forms of distanced communication (mental bonds, cell phones, etc.) during aggressive scenes. This includes verbal aggression.

Rule 12:
Keep it original. While The 305 is a free-form sim, we do ask that players not play pre-existing fictional or historical characters without GM approval or oversight. This includes as offscreen NPCs.

Rule 13:
No rezzable vehicles. Attachment vehicles are fine! No flying, unless you have a good IC justification for it.

Dice Rules

1. To fight in 3DS, make your post, then click the “Attack Someone” button.

    • If it’s a PvE scene, click on something with a green hovertext to attack it.

2. When you reach 0 HP, you are considered “defeated”. You are unable to fight back or resist anything that happens to you IC. Once you are defeated, you may not be revived until the defeat scene ends.

    • If you are defeated, let people know what your limits are. You may FTB (fade-to-black) a scene if this violates your limits, or with prior agreement with the other party (such as if time is short), but whatever happens to your character IC stays.
    • Permanent changes to your character (like permadeath) requires the consent of all parties involved.
    • Storytellers may allow reviving defeated players in PVE scenes.

3. No action can be taken against another player that would cause them to be defeated before everyone in the scene has had the chance to respond in one round. A good rule of thumb is that, if a player is at 16 health or below, you should not further attack them during the first round.|

4. If you wish to flee from the fight, write a post that states you’re disengaging from the fight, and do not roll. On your next post, write a post that you’re trying to flee, and continue not to roll. If anyone succeeds in a roll against you, your flee attempt doesn’t work, and you will need to reattempt to flee.

5. If all combatants wish, dice combat can be hastened by completing all 3DS dice rolls first (until someone/one side is defeated), and then narrating the results. This is not generally the preferred method, but might be used when time is short, and when all fighting agree to do so.
